Abstract

The Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, which signified the Palestinian struggle for liberation from Israeli occupation since 1948, was instead utilized by Israel as a pretext to justify its actions of genocide and other crimes against humanity towards Palestinians. With the support of Western nations, Israel proceeded with its genocidal acts and displaced the Palestinian population from the Gaza Strip to Rafah. These actions by Israel, which profoundly violate international laws and norms, have inevitably provoked negative reactions from countries supporting Palestinian independence from Israeli occupation. One such strong support comes from Indonesia, a nation that does not recognize Israel as a sovereign state and consistently advocates for Palestinian independence through its diplomacy. This study aims to describe Indonesia's diplomatic efforts in the Palestine-Israel conflict during 2023-2024 and the challenges encountered in these diplomatic endeavors. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study design. The data collection technique used is a literature review or library research. Indonesia's diplomatic efforts are analyzed using the concepts of diplomacy and world order. The findings indicate that Indonesia conducts its diplomatic efforts both bilaterally and multilaterally. Bilaterally, Indonesia integrates the Israel-Palestine peace agenda into its state visits to allied countries. Multilaterally, Indonesia voices the same agenda within international forums and institutions such as the UN, OIC, ASEAN, UNCTAD, and the International Court of Justice (ICJ). However, these efforts do not run smoothly as they encounter significant obstacles, primarily driven by an unjust global order and the double standards applied by superpowers such as the United States, which consistently supports Israel's actions.
